Summary

Paul Thompson has worked in the Birmingham particle physics group for 20 years, initially on the H1 experiment and now on ATLAS. He is highly experienced in data analysis techniques, particularly for heavy flavour identification and Higgs physics. Combining the two, he is currently a key figure in the investigation of Higgs decays to the dominant b-bbar mode at ATLAS, and also plays major roles in searches for various rare and exotic Higgs decay modes. He is also engaged in optimising Monte Carlo simulations for use in ATLAS Higgs physics and is a frequent speaker at conferences.

Paul is also an expert on the DCS slow control system, which he maintains and develops for the ATLAS trigger and data acquisition systems.
