Particle Physics Seminar

Date: Wednesday 12th November 2003

Title: Animated CMS visualisation: a CERN summer student project

Speaker: Jonathan Prance (Birmingham)

Abstract
The CMS preshower is made of two modules, each in front of one of the electromagnetic calorimeter endcaps. It's purpose is to stimulate showers and to help reduce backgound for the Higgs->two photons signal. A brief description of its design will be given. Also an overview of the CMS software chain will be presented with particular focus on 'IGUANA' (the visualisation package). A explanation of modifications made to IGUANA to produce animations will be given and the results shown.

Particle Physics Seminars take place in room 103, Physics West, on Wednesdays at 1315, unless listed otherwise. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served at 1300.
