Particle Physics Seminar

Date: Wednesday 1th March 2006

Title: ALICE physics program

Speaker: Dr Orlando Villalobos-Baillie (Birmingham)

Abstract

In December 2005 the ALICE collaboration completed its Physics Performance Report, giving detailed simulation results for the kind of physics study which are currently foreseen. In addition, the physics programme for the collaboration was discussed in detail at a physics meeting held in Erice. In the ALICE apparatus, more physics signatures relevant to ultrarelativistic heavy ion physics can be studied simultaneously than ever before. The LHC also brings new possibilities, with hard processes accessible for the first time. In this seminar, the physics capabilities of the ALICE experiment are described, with a few examples given in detail.

This Particle Physics Seminar will take place in Seminar Room 2 (room 106), Physics West, at 1315. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at 1300.
