Abstract

The decrease in funding over recent years has led to funding councils being increasingly interested in the impact of a project outside of its original field. Here I will present some of the work currently being undertaken by HEP groups in the UK to benefit radiotherapy treatments. The main focus will be on work conducted by the PRaVDA consortium using HEP technologies to build a pCT (proton Computed Tomography) instrument. I will also outline some of the work done by UCL (in conjunction with UCLH) using the SuperNEMO calorimeter for measuring proton energies at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, and a CMOS device produced by Bristol University for monitoring the beam during IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) treatments.
