Quarkonia in Jets

Phil Ilten (Birmingham University)

Abstract

The LHCb detector on the Large Hadron Collider was purpose built for B-physics, but has also proven to be a versatile forward general purpose detector. Recently a jet physics program has been developed at LHCb, leveraging its unique capabilities. The characteristic decays of hadrons with heavy quarks provide an experimental tool for understanding the emergent phenomena of fundamental QCD. I will describe the inclusive c and b-jet tagging capabilities of LHCb and their application. Additionally, I will describe recent work on understanding the nature of J/psi production in the context of jets, as well new phenomenological techniques to probe QCD.
