New Electron Neutrino Results from T2K

Matthew Malek (Imperial College)

Abstract

This past year has seen several exciting advances in our understanding of neutrinos. The first indications of non-zero theta_13, presented twelve months ago by the T2K collaboration, were confirmed in March and April by anti-neutrino disappearance observations at the Daya Bay and RENO experiments. The surprisingly large value of the third neutrino mixing angle opens the possibility that we may be able to measure leptonic CP violation with the current generation of accelerator neutrino projects, via the electron neutrino appearance channel. T2K is the first off-axis long baseline experiment, and the only one currently in operation. In this seminar, I present the latest results on electron neutrino appearance at T2K, released last week at Neutrino 2012.
